Biomedical Technology

Career Based Intervention (CBI) is a one-year co-op work/study program for eligible Beavercreek seniors based on academic and/or other qualifying factors identified by the student’s counselor. CBI is designed to assist with on-time graduation while earning income and learning in class 21st century skills, foundation skills, workplace competencies, and transferable employability skills on the job.

By engaging in hands-on, real-world projects students understand how the skills they are learning in the classroom can be applied to everyday life. Project Lead the Way helps students succeed by building strategic partnerships among high schools, colleges, universities, and businesses.  This program provides students with rigorous, relevant, reality-based knowledge necessary to pursue engineering or engineering technology majors in college.

The one-year program is for seniors interested in marketing, management, entrepreneurship and service occupations. Beavercreek marketing students have a strong reputation for success at various DECA competitions including numerous medals at the state and national levels. Content areas covered during the year include public relations, advertising, sales promotion, sports and entertainment marketing, fashion merchandising and retail management. As a co-op program, students have the opportunity to obtain a position in the marketing field while still in high school.

These courses empower individuals to take action for the well-being of themselves and others in the home, workplace and community. The students will learn how to manage the challenges of living and working in a diverse global society, while developing competencies for problem solving, financial literacy, and relationship building. Interpersonal skills, citizenship and leadership are also explored along with the concept of balancing work and family. The material covered in these courses provides a foundation for all career fields. Course selections include life management and focus on careers for freshmen and sophomores. Juniors and seniors may take cooking and wellness, Eagle Enterprises, child development, living on your own and career mentorship.

Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources is open to freshman and sophomore first year agriculture students. Coursework will teach students how to work in groups and develop their leadership abilities through hands on activities. Students will use the animal science unit to promote proper animal husbandry and production to make sound decisions as a producer and consumer. Students will explain and demonstrate the basics in plant production and harvesting in helping make sound decisions as a consumer and producer.

Animal Science and Technology is for second, third and fourth year agriculture students. Learners will develop business leadership, problem-solving and communication skills in relation to the science and technology of animals. Students will learn responsible animal management principles and routine husbandry practices as they relate to animal welfare and behavior. Learners will identify and describe the anatomy and physiology of monogastric and ruminant organisms as it applies to nutrition, reproduction, and animal health. Learners will investigate animal genetics and how it impacts principles of animal improvement, selection and marketing.

Plant and Horticultural Science is open to second, third and fourth year agriculture students and focuses on skills and technologies essential for agricultural and/or horticultural crop production. Cultural and sustainable production practices will be examined. Students will apply scientific knowledge of plant development, nutrition, and growth regulation. Environmental aspects of irrigation, chemical application and soil conservation will be evaluated.

Science and Technology of Food is open to second, third and fourth year agriculture students, this course will examine the research, marketing, processing and packaging techniques applied to the development of food products. Learners will examine principles of food preservation techniques and determine correlations to food sensory, shelf life and food stability. Learners will examine and develop food safety, sanitation, and quality assurance protocol.

Communications and Leadership is for senior agricultural students, who will use communication and leadership skills to become effective leaders. Students will learn how to conduct research and present their results using different forms of multi-media. Students will use parliamentary procedure and interpersonal skills to run a meeting. Students will learn the importance of team building. Students will promote diversity in their leadership skills and foster positive working relationships.
